Leading the AIDS Response in Asia: Recommendations from the Commission on AIDS in Asia XVII International AIDS Conference August 5, 2008

Behavioral sentinel surveillance (BSS) provides the descriptive epidemiology of sexual behaviors among the most-at-risk groups. BSS 2007 is the seventh round of BSS. The objectives of the BSS 2007 are:

• Provide specific specific-year information on socio-demographic and risk behavior related to HIV/ STIs.
• Monitor sexual behavior of risk groups from year to year and to examine trends in behavior change in high risk groups.

Scientific advances over the past 20 years have shown that drug addiction is a chronic, relapsing disease that results from the prolonged effects of drugs on the brain. As with many other brain diseases, addiction has embedded behavioral and social-context aspects that are important parts of the disorder itself. Therefore, the most effective treatment approaches will include biological, behavioral, and social-context components. Recognizing addiction as a chronic, relapsing brain disorder characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use can impact society's overall health and social policy strategies and help diminish the health and social costs associated with drug abuse and addiction.

To estimate HIV prevalence among persons in the general population aged 15 to 49 years in 2006, based on currently available data

The objectives of the Integrated Biological and Behavioral Survey (IBBS) are:

• Measure estimates of the following among IDU, FSW, and MSM populations.
• Provide key information for advocacy and policy making including UNGASS indicators
• Use information for national estimates and projections.

Background of HBC in Cambodia:

• In 1998, joint pilot project on HBC in Phnom Penh by NCHADS, Municipal Health Department, WHO, and 8 NGO
• End of 1998, evaluation of the pilot project by NCHADS and WHO
• In 1999, expansion of HBC to Battambang province
• In 2000, evaluation on HBC service by NCHADS, Alliance/KHANAAlliance/KHANA

This presentation aims to analyse the occurrence of stavudine (d4T) related toxicity in a large cohort of patients on highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART).

This is a presentation on results obtained from the implementation of the project, "A comprehensive intervention based on peer education for injecting drug users" in Lang Son. The objective of this project is to restrain HIV/AIDS epidemic within IDUs and from this group in to community in Lang Son.

• In February 2004, MSF-B started pediatric HIV/AIDS care in Takeo in collaboration with the hospital pediatric team
