Pregnant women with STI can transmit the infection to their children, resulting in significant morbidity and mortality.

In essence, the present document describes the priority health sector interventions recommended to achieve universal access for the prevention, treatment, care and support of HIV and sexually transmitted infections among MSM in the broader perspective of male sexual health.

Stigma and discrimination surrounding HIV/AIDS pose critical barriers to prevention, treatment, care and support programs. There is currently little reliable data or documentation relating to stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV (PLHIV) in Cambodia.

In 2010, the eight round of Behavioral Sentinel Surveillance (BSS) has been conducted. The study was conducted in 5 main cities/provinces among female entertainment workers, moto-taxi driver and AIDS patients receiving care in the AIDS treatment centers.

Data is available for new diagnoses of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infections from all Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs) except Papua New Guinea (PNG) for the year to December 2009 and to December 2008 for PNG, Australia and New Zealand. In 2008, there were 5,169 new HIV diagnoses reported in Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs), and diagnoses in PNG accounted for 5,084 or 98.4% of notifications. Excluding PNG, the annual number of new HIV diagnoses reported in PICTs was 85 cases in 2008 and 82 in 2009.

Hong Kong, located in Asia the new burning place of HIV infection, is still having a relatively low prevalence of HIV infection. While sexual transmission is the predominant route of transmission in Hong Kong, an upsurge of infection in injecting drug users is a concern from the experience in other Asian localities. Various public health measures in Hong Kong have kept the HIV prevalence of drug users at low level, as compared with neighbouring cities.

Behavioral sentinel surveillance (BSS) has been conducted by NCHADS to document behavior changes among sentinel groups since 1997. The objectives of the BSS 2010 are:

• To document HIV related risk behaviors among selected sentinel groups
• To track trends in risk behaviors among most at risk groups
• To explore common practices toward the use of VCT, STI clinics and other health services

This People Living with HIV Stigma Index report is a result of a series of consultations with key stakeholders including membership of three networks of HIV positive people, and the National Partnership comprising of UN joint team on AIDS, the National STD & AIDS Control Programme and the Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka.
