This report documents the range of abuses against LGBT students in secondary school. It details widespread bullying and harassment, discriminatory policies and practices, and an absence of supportive resources that undermine the right to education under international law and put LGBT youth at risk.

The year 2016 represented a transition in many ways for the global HIV response. Some changes and developments were unequivocally positive, while the impact of others remains uncertain.

The purpose of this toolkit is to guide the design, implementation and monitoring of an effective national advocacy action roadmap to bring about positive policy-specific changes to improve the health and well-being of adolescents.

The promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of young women is central to UNDP’s mandate and intrinsic to its development approach. This effort includes advocating for women’s and girls’ equal rights, combating discriminatory practices and challenging the roles and stereotypes that affect inequalities and exclusion.

In September 2016, the Asia-Pacific Regional Office of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA APRO) and the UNICEF Regional Office for South Asia (UNICEF ROSA) hosted a three-day expert group meeting to examine the evidence around programming and policies to end child marriage in South Asia. The meeting convened representatives from the host organizations, as well as UNFPA, UNICEF and UN Women country offices in South Asia and surrounding countries, experts from academia and representatives from organizations implementing programmes in the region. 

The goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda are interconnected, aiming to integrate the three dimensions of sustainable development: economic, social and environmental. Explicitly or implicitly, young people are deeply embedded within their fabric. Their knowledge, reach and innovative solutions are essential if sustainable development is to be realized.

This is the first round of the IBBS Survey conducted among street involved children and youths in three districts in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal. This survey is a part of the National HIV Surveillance Plan (2012) and National HIV and AIDS Strategy (2011-2016). The first round of the survey was undertaken to determine the prevalence of HIV infections and to assess the sexual and/or injecting behaviors related to HIV among street involved children and youths in the Kathmandu Valley.

The study emphasizes that a holistic approach to advancing gender equality and sexual and reproductive health must include both adolescent girls and boys. It highlights the need to engage adolescent boys and young men as allies to achieve gender equality and as supporters of women's empowerment.

To end AIDS in children once and for all, we need to focus on both treatment and prevention, with a deeper focus on the life cycle of the child, beginning during pregnancy, in infancy and childhood, and through adolescence.

Positive changes are taking place around the Asia and the Pacific region, due to strong leadership and enhanced community education, advocacy, and access to treatment. In fact, leadership has not just come from the quarters of government or intergovernmental groups, but also civil society, including young people.
