In this report, we provide an update on the key facets of HIV treatment access. It includes the latest HIV treatment guidelines from World Health Organization (WHO), an overview on pricing for first-line, second-line and salvage regimens, and a summary of the opportunities for – and threats to – expanding access to affordable antiretroviral therapy (ART).

The research aimed to provide data on how stigma and discrimination create barriers to accessing services and how they impede the scaling-up of delivery of antiretroviral therapy (ART) in Papua New Guinea. Another aim was to detail the levels of stigma and discrimination faced by people living with HIV (PLHIV) in the different provinces and regions.

Data from the DOH - Epidemiology Bureau shows that only 44% of all people diagnosed with HIV from 2010 to 2015 were started on Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART).

In Laos, LINKAGES is taking both fear of harassment and lack of access out of the testing equation for men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women in three communities. The project introduced a community-based model of HIV testing with OraQuick—a relatively new rapid oral HIV test that requires neither specialized equipment nor highly trained providers to administer it.

The development of a five-year plan reflects a global consensus that HIVDR in lower and middle-income countries requires a coordinated and resourced response. The Global Action Plan is an agreement by key partners about their respective roles in preventing, monitoring, and responding to HIVDR.

The global response in the last 15 years has recorded unparalleled progress in its fight against HIV/AIDS. Since 2000, new infections in adults and children have declined 35%, death from HIV-related causes has declined 24%, almost 16 million people living with HIV are now on ART, and the global response has averted 30 million new HIV infections and 7.8 million AIDS-related deaths. However, despite these achievements, significant challenges remain.

The first case of HIV infection in Hong Kong was reported in 1984. As of 2015, the Department of Health has received a cumulative total of 7,718 reports of HIV infection and 1,655 AIDS cases under the voluntary and anonymous HIV/AIDS reporting system.
