The WHO 2021 guideline promotes the use of optimal antiretroviral treatment (ART) regimens in all populations. Though new, more effective and better tolerated options with a higher genetic barrier to resistance are now available for adults, optimized treatment options for children lag significantly behind. This sixth edition of the Optimal Formulary and Limited-use List supports the transition to optimal WHO-recommended ART regimens for infants and children, while giving due consideration to the rapidly evolving treatment landscape and the risks inherent in the uncertain timelines for pediatric drug development.

This guide was created to support civil society to engage and contribute more effectively during the 2021 High-Level Meeting on HIV and AIDS (HLM). Unlike other HLM processes the majority, if not all, of the HLM activities, will be virtual. This means that it is especially important for advocates to find solutions to build their capacity, strengthen their networks and engage in advocacy virtually. This guide includes some important engagement opportunities and places to start on this journey.

The HLM Youth Guide has been developed by The PACT and UNAIDS to provide young people with information and guidance on what is and how to engage in the High-Level Meeting on HIV & AIDS that will take place from 8-10 June at the United Nations General Assembly. The intended audience of this Guide are young activists and youth-led organizations working on HIV and SRHR at all levels of the response, especially those key populations most affected by HIV.

The 2009 Human Development Report Overcoming Barriers: Human Mobility and Development, made the case that human mobility not only contributes to improving the lives of migrants and their families, but is a driver of development in countries of origin and destination. It also proposed a package of reforms to enhance the development gains of human mobility. Human Mobility, Shared Opportunities: A Review of the 2009 Human Development Report and the Way Ahead looks at new patterns of human mobility, reviews progress made on recommendations in the previous report, analyses emerging challenges and sets out next steps.

Through more than 10 years, UNDP has been supporting transitional justice processes with an integrated approach to support sustaining peace. This strategic report covers a wide range of UNDP’s support to transitional justice processes providing good practices, country cases and key strategic alliances with UN partners, such as OHCHR, UN Women, and UN peace missions. The key areas highlighted in the report are participatory processes, institutional transformation for proper accountability, reparations programmes and conflict prevention and sustaining peace to promote resilience and social cohesion for affected communities.

The aim of this document is to assist national tuberculosis (TB) programmes in developing the strongest possible mechanisms of surveillance for drug resistance in TB, building on more than 25 years of global experience. This starts from periodic surveys of sampled patients, moving towards an ultimate goal of continuous surveillance systems based on routine drug susceptibility testing (DST). This guidance promotes certain standardized criteria for surveillance to ensure that results are comparable within and between countries over time. The target audience of this document is national TB programmes and, in particular, the coordination team for surveillance ideally composed of the programme manager, a laboratory specialist, a logistician, and an epidemiologist/statistician.

Global AIDS Strategy 2021–2026: an inequalities framework that puts people at the centre

A new report by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria shows COVID-19 has massively disrupted health systems and health service delivery for HIV, TB and malaria in low- and middle-income countries in Africa and Asia in 2020. The report highlights the urgent need to scale up the adaptive measures that health facilities adopted to continue the fight against HIV, TB, malaria, to ramp up delivery of critical supplies for the COVID-19 response, and prevent health care systems and community responses from collapse.

This document summarizes current evidence on TB outbreaks in schools and contextualizes the information within the Western Pacific Region. Case studies from four countries highlighted the diverse range of experiences in the Region. As many countries have minimal experience in preventing and responding to TB outbreaks in schools, evidence from past outbreaks and case studies from a few countries could inform future responses.

The 2021 high-level meeting will be the springboard for a decade of action to reduce inequalities and root out the social determinants that fuel the HIV epidemic. The high-level meeting comes at a historic moment for the AIDS response, 40 years after the emergence of the first cases of HIV and 25 years since the creation of UNAIDS. UNAIDS encourages the highest level of governmental participation in the 2021 high-level meeting and the full engagement of civil society and all other stakeholders through all channels, as agreed in the modalities of the high-level meeting.
