Today, 1.2 billion adolescents stand at the challenging crossroads between childhood and the adult world. Nine out of ten of these young people live in the developing world and face especially profound challenges, from obtaining an education to simply staying alive – challenges that are even more magnified for girls and young women.

The Viet Nam Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS 2011) was conducted from December 2010 to January 2011 by the General Statistics Office of Viet Nam, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA).

The findings of the study revealed that the street-children were extremely vulnerable to HIV/AIDS because of their living and working status; peer relationships; harassments by others; risky behaviours, including drug-use and sexual behaviours; lack of knowledge about HIV/AIDS and use of condoms to protect them from HIV/AIDS; and lack access to healthcare services.

The HIV epidemic in Asia-Pacific is growing rapidly, although most countries have low HIV prevalence while some have concentrated epidemics. AIDS is increasingly feminized through intimate partners’ transmission with gradual increase of new HIV infections among low-risk women and consequent mother-to-child transmission.

This Global Plan provides the foundation for country-led movement towards the elimination of new HIV infections among children and keeping their mothers alive. 

The Myanmar MICS 2009-2010 main objectives are to provide updated information for assessing the situation of children and women in Myanmar; to furnish data needed for monitoring progress towards the Millennium Development Goals and other internationally agreed goals; and to contribute to the improvement of data collection and monitoring systems in Myanmar.

This preliminary report is based on the Nepal Multiple monitor progress made over the past decade on children's Indicator Cluster Survey (NMICS), conducted in 2010 by and women's issues.

The National statistics Bureau conducted the Bhutan Multiple Indicator Survey between March and August, 2010. The survey's main objective is to provide up-to-date information on the situation of children and women in Bhutan.

These guidelines are part of a comprehensive set of normative documents being prepared by WHO for the prevention and treatment of common conditions affecting HIV-infected and -exposed infants and children.

For nearly three decades, HIV and AIDS have been devastating individuals and families with the tragedy of untimely death and medical, financial and social burdens. Although children's concerns have always been present within the great spectrum of need associated with HIV, they have to some extent been overshadowed by the very scale of the epidemic in the adult population.
