An estimated 1,700 children under the age of 15 are infected by HIV around the globe everyday. Many of these are young children, infected at birth by mothers who are unaware of their HIV status.

The Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative (CHAI) is committed to supporting the government of Cambodia to expand pediatric HIV/AIDS care in Cambodia as outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding between CHAI and the Ministry of Health. This concept paper is a first step to try and achieve that goal.

The Thailand Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) December 2005 – February 2006 was developed, for the first time, to collect data on situations of all children in Thailand to be used as tools in monitoring and evaluation of child development in Thailand.

This document is a training material for a 4-day training course on counselling to support children’s adherence to antiretroviral treatment (ART).

HIV and AIDS have left virtually no country, rich or poor, untouched. The Pacific island countries are no exception. Fed by rapid economic and social changes, conditions have become increasingly conducive to the spread of HIV.

The document is one of a trilogy of guidelines published at the same time which provide recommendations developed by WHO and its partners in support of the public health approach to antiretroviral therapy (ART) in resource constrained settings.

MICS Mongolia was designed to provide statistically sound and internationally comparable data for monitoring the situation of women and children in Mongolia. Among the social indicators used in the MICS Mongolia are those required for monitoring the goals and targets of the Millennium Declaration, the World Fit for Children Declaration and Plan of Action and the goals of the United Nations General Assembly Special Session on HIV/AIDS. Mongolia conducted the first and the second rounds of MICS in 1996 and 2000.

Background:

• In February 2004, MSF-B started pediatric HIV/AIDS care in Takeo in collaboration with the hospital pediatric team
• Located and extended nearby the pediatric ward in the compound of Daunkeo RH, Takeo provincial town

Under the banner “Unite for Children, Unite against AIDS”, the Global Campaign on Children and AIDS sought to raise the alarm for the millions of children already living with or affected by HIV and press countries into taking action for them and future generations.

The current survey was designed to collect information on a large number of indicators required for monitoring the goals and targets of the Millenium Declaration, The World Fit for Children Declaration and Plan of Action, and the goals of the United Nations General Assembly Special Session on HIV/AIDS.
