In order to maximize investments for AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, the Global Fund is supporting countries in integrating interventions for these diseases into sexual and reproductive health services. These services provide a country’s health care system with a critical opportunity to reach people living with and affected by the three diseases.

To end the epidemics, we must address gender inequality. The Global Fund’s new strategy takes a strong stand on strengthening the response to HIV, tuberculosis and malaria by supporting programs that address gender inequalities and gender-related risks and remove gender-related barriers that prevent people from accessing health services.

The Asia Catalyst report, The Condom Quandary: A Survey of the Impact of Law Enforcement Practices on Effective HIV Prevention among Male, Female, and Transgender Sex Workers in China, documents how relevant laws and law enforcement practices in China are affecting the ability of sex workers to access and carry condoms, as well as access to HIV and Sexual and Reproductive Health services.

Countries experiencing concentrated epidemics of HIV need the size of key populations (KPs) to guide the national response on HIV and AIDS. Conducting a robust method to estimate the size of KPs is quite challenging as most of them are hidden and do not want to disclose their identity due to stigma and discrimination associated with their behaviour. KPs in Bangladesh include female sex workers, people who inject drugs, men who have sex with men including transgender/Hijra and sex workers, and clients of sex workers in the country or abroad. 

This is the first round of the IBBS survey conducted among men who have sex with men (MSM) and Transgender (TG) population in the selected eight districts of Terai Highway regions of Nepal.

In Laos, LINKAGES is taking both fear of harassment and lack of access out of the testing equation for men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women in three communities. The project introduced a community-based model of HIV testing with OraQuick—a relatively new rapid oral HIV test that requires neither specialized equipment nor highly trained providers to administer it.
